'...the Soil and Surf name is highly appropriate; I have commissioned Jim for many and varied works, including driftwood fencing, garden furniture, planters, gardening and sourcing seafood.' - John Hughes

"Jim Knox combines the jobs of a bespoke fishmonger and a raconteur of fishing lore"
- Michael Raffael, Gourmet Traveller (Food and Travel Magazine)

Ahoy! Thanks for sailing into our little corner of the world. We’ve planted ourselves in this space to celebrate our dual passion for Soil and Surf. For us, these elements are inseparable, forming the essence of 'the good life' in the East Neuk of Fife.

With this in mind, our creative captain, Jim Knox, offers a range of services:-

Gardener + Grower - create a little piece of paradise or cook with home-grown ingredients, without getting your hands dirty; we take care of general maintenance, mowing, rotavating, fruit, vegetables and herbs: whatever you need to bring your recreational or kitchen garden to life.

Beachcomber + Maker - experience outdoor entertaining in your own garden, featuring our sturdy and stylish weather-proof furniture and ornamental driftwood; we create one-off pieces, handmade from reclaimed and beachcombed materials.

Fisherman + Seafood Specialist - enjoy lobster and crab, hand-picked for you, straight off local boats; a licensed buyer and seller of shellfish, with 30+ years fishing experience, Jim can also share his expertise and enthusiasm at demonstrations to educate, encourage and excite the palate. If you'd love to learn how to prepare delicious, creel-caught, local seafood, we can even share our secrets at pre-dinner demonstrations in your own home. Need all hands on deck? Jim can join your crew and/or skipper your creel boat, too! Out of the sea, onto your plate.

Our approach to work and pleasure is inspired by going with the flow and grown not flown, seasonal cycles and locally sourced, watering cans and yellow wellies, barefoot wandering and beachcombing, fresh air and flower power, outdoor entertaining and edible gardens, reclaimed and handmade, catch of the day and carefree play, salt of the earth and endless skies, deep roots and rolling tides.

If this philosophy floats your boat, we'd love to bring our combined experience in creative gardening + coastal living home to you.  Drop us a line - or check social media for upcoming news.
